Operations Update: Silverado Plans

Mountain Manager Jimmy King working in Silverado.

With all this said, we know you’re eager for Silverado to open. We are almost there! We are planning to open it this week, but we don’t want to commit to a specific day. Some east winds in the forecast could affect the chair, and we want to give our teams ample time to set up safely. So, long story short: Silverado is coming soon, and you should check the next day’s scheduled lifts each afternoon to see when we put it on the schedule.

Palisades Tahoe Athletes: February Update

February was another great month for our Athlete Team! We are particularly grateful for the support we received from our crew during the Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup. Jonny Moseley, Daron Rahlves, Travis Ganong, Bryce Bennett, & AJ Hurt each played a significant role in our Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup programming.

Why March Is The Best Month To Ski

A skier at Squaw Valley in March 2019, a "miracle March"

Tahoe locals and frequent visitors alike know that the month of March is the “sweet spot” for some of the best skiing and riding you’ll get all season, every season. At this point in the year, we have solid snowpack and our highest percentage of open terrain. This means that there’s space to spread out and plenty of different trails to choose from.

Palisades Tahoe, nestled in the breathtaking Sierra Nevada, is the premier training ground for top-tier athletes destined for the highest levels of international competition. This is where champions are forged, legacies are born, and history is made. Rooted in the historic 1960 Winter Olympics, our mountain continues to shape the future of ski racing, setting the stage for the upcoming 2024 Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup. This is where ski racers will become champions, where legends will become legendary.

We are just a little over a week out from the Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup, which means the Palisades base and Red Dog areas will be affected until the end of the event. Plus, we’ve got a LOT of snow in the forecast following over a foot of snow in the past 24 hours on our upper mountains.

Legends of Tahoe: Gael & Zach Williams, the Father-Son Ski Patrol Duo

Gael Williams is the longest-running member of the Palisades Tahoe Ski Patrol. In fact, this year marks his 41st season as a patroller. Known as a kind, knowledgeable, easy-to-talk-to mainstay on the mountain, Gael has been here through decades of change and excitement. What never changes for Gael is how much he loves these mountains (especially KT-22) or his drive to be the hardest worker on the hill. From sun up to sun down (and often in the darkness, too) Gael gives his life to one of the most difficult and rewarding jobs on the mountain. For the past three seasons, there has been another factor upping the fun for Gael as well: His son, Zach, is now also a member of the Palisades Tahoe Ski Patrol.

Palisades Tahoe has one of the most impressive ski & snowboard team programs in the world. Our teams, collectively known as Team Palisades Tahoe, support thousands of athletes ages 3 to 20 not just in the winter, but all year round. With dozens of events throughout each season, strict requirements for racecourse surfaces, and a lot of people to fit on the hill, it is no small feat to plan and execute for the needs of Team Palisades Tahoe. Here’s a closer look at how we make it happen.

Operations Update: Sherwood Opens Tomorrow

Features in Belmont Park at Palisades.

Sherwood will open tomorrow and it will operate daily, weather and conditions permitting. Snow conditions are extremely thin in this area, but in an effort to expand our available skiable terrain, we have decided to move forward with getting this area open. Sherwood will have no grooming except for the maze area. This means that if you are going to ski or snowboard in this area, you need to be aware of your surroundings. No beginners should attempt this terrain in these “low-tide” conditions.
