Operations Update: Palisades Tahoe Closed Friday

Operations Update for Friday, March 1st

Due to the large snowfall totals we are expecting (up to 50 inches in the Palisades base area in the next 24 hours) and the high rate of snowfall (up to 5 inches per hour) we have made the decision to keep Alpine closed for tomorrow, Friday, March 1st. On the Palisades side, we are going to attempt to open Resort Chair, First Venture, Far East, and Red Dog. You should expect that these lifts will be delayed, maybe even significantly delayed, depending on how much snow we get overnight. There is also a chance that Palisades will be fully closed once we assess conditions in the morning. Further down in this blog, there is a list of ways to get real-time information.

Operations Update: The Biggest Storm of the Season is on the Way

A snowcat during active heavy snowfall

A massive storm is barreling towards Lake Tahoe, with the potential of 5-7 FEET of snow. While we’re thrilled about the prospect of deep coverage, we are preparing for challenging operational impacts, and we would like you to be prepared before you travel. There will be slick roads, reduced visibility, and closures on mountain passes that are pretty much guaranteed. Our recommendation: If you’re not up here by Thursday night, don’t try to come up to the Tahoe basin via Highway 80 or Highway 50 until the storm has passed through.

Recap: 2024 Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup Weekend

Our biggest weekend of the season has come to a close: The 2024 Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup is in the books. It was another weekend to remember: emotional, exciting, and exhausting for those of us who worked long hours to make it happen. Unlike the 2023 Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup, when we received 146 inches of snow in one week and it took true miracle work to pull it off, this year we had sunny, beautiful skies and decently warm temperatures for February.

The Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup, a stop on the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Tour, will be at Palisades Tahoe from February 24th to February 26th. This is also Presidents Weekend and the tail end of local Ski Skate Week, so expect this to be a busy but exciting time. To help you prepare for a weekend like this and have a seamless visit, we’ve compiled this guide for how to visit Palisades Tahoe on the Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup weekend. By following the tips in this blog, you’ll have an easier time, and you’ll also make it easier on others who want to watch the Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup and go skiing, too.

Operations Update: Lakeview Opens Tomorrow; Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup Impacts

Lakeview chairlift in the distance

Our percentage of open terrain has seriously increased this week following almost 50 inches of snow on the upper mountains in the past 7 days. If you got out there this week, you know that conditions (even when visibility was low) were absolutely incredible. Not only did the vast majority of our hiking terrain open up this week, but we’ll be adding Lakeview to the schedule starting tomorrow, too. We plan to groom Outer Limits and Mountain View. We will also have the Sherwood Shuttle running this weekend.

Operations Update: Delays & Closures Possible Following Intense Storm

The biggest storm of the season is here, and it is intense. If you skied this morning, you know that visibility was low. The wind wasn’t as much of a problem until midday; slowly, due to both wind and snow safety, we closed several lifts at both Alpine and Palisades, with the Palisades side eventually […]

Operations Update: Lifts To Be Impacted By Storm Sunday & Monday

Our current 3-day snowfall total is just shy of two feet on the upper mountain! This is shaping up to be our snowiest period of the season so far. After a slow start to the season and lots of small snowstorms, we’re definitely ready for a big Sierra snowstorm like we saw so often last season. With a possibility of up to FOUR FEET by Tuesday, we are expecting storm impacts on both Sunday and Monday.

Sierra Sightseeing Pass: Itinerary for Riding the Gondola, the Aerial Tram, and the Funitel

The Palisades Tahoe Aerial Tram in the wintertime.

One of the best ways to see the Lake Tahoe region and the surrounding mountains is from one of our three enclosed lifts. Palisades Tahoe has the unique position of having a Gondola, an Aerial Tram, and a Funitel, and you can ride all three of them when you visit us. Our Sightseeing Package gives you all-day unlimited access to ride these three lifts as much as you want. If you’re not in the mood to ski or snowboard, or you’re looking for a different perspective on how to enjoy Palisades Tahoe, we’ve got the perfect itinerary crafted for you:

The Impossible Event: Looking Back at the Intense Storm Surrounding the 2023 Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup

Preparing the racecourse for the Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup.

In the final days of February 2023, 146 inches of snow fell on the slopes of Palisades Tahoe. It was our biggest storm of the season to date. It was also timed exactly with our biggest event of the season, the Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup, a stop on the 2023 Audi FIS Ski World Cup tour. The Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup was set to be back on the legendary Red Dog racecourse at Palisades after a 6-year hiatus. As our teams watched the weather forecast, we had no way to guarantee that we’d be able to pull off hosting the international race. You see, while we were excited for the epic powder days to come following the storm, ski racing requires a very specific, firm surface — a surface that is in stark contrast to fresh powder.

Holiday Week at Palisades Tahoe: What to expect during December 22nd-January 1st

A lit up Christmas Tree off of the KT-22 run at Palisades Tahoe.

The holiday season is in full swing. Our events and activities schedule is jam-packed over the next few days. You won’t want to miss out on these fun and spirited occasions! While this tends to be one of our busiest times of the year, the forecast is shaping up to be very dynamic. We are expecting an influx of weather that is a wintry mix (meaning rain and snow) which could impact our operations at times. That said, we still have LOTS going on, plenty of indoor events, cozy spots to warm up, and more.
