UPDATE: Friday, November 22 at 3:45 p.m.
Tomorrow, we expect snow up high overnight, with mixed precipitation at lower elevations and potentially high winds throughout the day. Operationally it looks similar to today with Exhibition, Treeline Cirque, Subway, and the Base to Base Gondola on the schedule. There is a chance for some operational delays with the inclement weather. You can stay up to date by downloading the Palisades Tahoe App, checking the lift and grooming status webpage, and checking out our social media.
ORIGINAL POST:
We are THRILLED to be opening early for our 75th anniversary season tomorrow, November 22! You can expect opening day banners at 9 a.m. on both Exhibition and Treeline Cirque, t-shirt cannons, free breakfast burritos, music and high energy to kick off our 75th year. That being said, Mother Nature is coming out in full force. We expect high winds and a mix of snow, sleet, and lower-elevation rain over the next few days of operations – but there’s never been a better opportunity to prove just how much you missed skiing and snowboarding during the off-season! Here’s what to expect over this opening weekend:
Weather
Friday and Saturday: A powerful storm (“bomb cyclone”) will bring heavy precipitation, starting with rain at lower elevations and snow above 7,000 feet on Friday. Snow levels will drop to the base overnight, turning rain to snow by Saturday morning. Strong winds (gusting 70-90 mph) and significant snowfall will make Saturday morning the most intense part of the storm. By Saturday night, we expect 5-10 inches of snow at the base, 18-24 inches mid-mountain, and 25-32 inches at the summit.
Sunday: The forecast models have been struggling from Sunday – Thursday with changes in the forecasts daily. The latest model runs show a break in the storm is likely, with some sunshine and calmer winds, making it the best ski day of the weekend. Highs will be in the 30s, with snow showers resuming late Sunday night and continuing into Monday.
Here’s the GREAT news: this storm is expected to deliver wet base-building snow to our mountain. In terms of our early-season outlook, this sloppy storm is just what the doctor ordered.
Operations
We’ll be monitoring the weather closely, but for now, we’re planning to move forward with the operational schedule we shared earlier this week:
- The Base to Base Gondola will be running from 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. to move guests between Palisades and Alpine. The Palisades Express Shuttle will also be running from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. between the base areas every hour.
- At Palisades, Exhibition will be spinning to mid-station 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- At Alpine, Subway and Treeline Cirque to mid-station will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Tips to Enjoy Your Day:
As this storm is on the wetter side, we recommend bundling up in layers and wearing your water-proof gear over top to stay dry and warm. We will be passing out breakfast burritos and 75th merchandise to guests in the morning to celebrate. We can’t wait to see you out there!
