Snowfall Report:
1 inch of new snow fell at the base and 7 inches on the upper mountain over the past 24 hours, as of 5 AM Wednesday. That brings the 2-day storm total to 14 inches on the upper mountain, the March total to 161 inches so far, and the season total to 662 inches and counting!
Wednesday – Thursday:
We finally have a break in the storms with mostly sunny skies expected for Wednesday and Thursday along with lighter winds! Highs into the 30s on the mountain and near 40 degrees at the base.
The Weekend:
A splitting system approaches CA on Friday into Saturday. It looks like it could mostly split apart with mainly just some clouds, partly sunny skies, and a few scattered snow showers around the area possibly. Highs into the 30s on the mountain. Snow levels fluctuate between 6000-7000 ft.
Saturday night into Sunday night another weak system moves through and may hold together a bit better. We could see snow showers Sunday with snow levels continuing to fluctuate between the base and 7000 ft. The winds look to stay on the lighter side.
Here is the initial forecast for snowfall totals expected by early Monday morning.
- Coating-3 inches at the base.
- 2-5 inches at mid-mountain elevations.
- 3-6 inches up top.
Long-Range:
The long-range models show us going back into a cold trough pattern the week of the 20th. We could see below-average temperatures and a pair of moderate-strong storms.
We could see a break Monday and the first storm could move in by Monday night and last into Wednesday. This storm could bring significant snowfall to the mountain, so we’ll continue to watch the trends with more details as we get closer.
We could see another break next Thursday the 23rd. Then we are watching another storm that could bring more snow around the 24th-25th. We’ll continue to watch the trends on that storm as well.
During the last several days of the month into April, the storms will likely become more spaced and weaker as we go deeper into the spring season. I’m hoping for a sunny weekend with spring skiing finally by the time we get to the first weekend of April when the Winter Wondergrass Festival will be here!
