Thursday – Friday Weather:
Mostly sunny days continue with highs in the 40s.
Weekend Cold & Dust:
We will see a cold front drop down from the north bringing in much colder air and snow showers this weekend. Unfortunately, the front is pretty dry and will mainly bring fluffy powdery snow on top of the snow on the ground that will be firming with the colder temperatures.
Highs are only in the 20s for the weekend. Snow showers move through the region Saturday through Saturday night. We could see scattered snow showers lingering into Sunday but with some sun as well.
The snow levels will be very low with this storm. Starting out around 4000 ft. Saturday morning and falling to around 2000 ft. Saturday night. That will bring us high snow ratios up around 15-20:1 which is powdery snow. We could see totals of a coating up to 3 inches of snow on the mountain.
Back to a Drier Pattern:
High pressure builds back in with a drier pattern returning starting Monday through the end of next week. Mostly sunny days will return by Monday with highs in the 30s. Then continuing through Friday with highs warming into the 40s.
Long-Range Forecast:
The long-range models show another trough digging into the West during the first week of February, but the pesky high-pressure ridge off the coast continues to try and build in too close for wet storms into CA.
It looks like we shift into a wetter pattern for the Pacific NW with the northern Sierra on the southern edge of the storm track. Similar to what we saw during most of December. We could see a couple of storms dig farther south bringing us some snow during the 1st week of February, but the exact tracks will be critical to amounts.
We’ll continue to watch the trends and will let you know about potential storms and snowfall as we get closer and more confident.
