Monday – Thursday Weather:
Sunny days through Thursday. Highs in the 30s for Monday and then warming slightly each day, with highs in the 40s for the lower elevations by Tuesday and warming into the 40s higher in elevation through Thursday.
Weekend Storm:
We have an interesting scenario developing for the weekend on the latest model runs. We have a cold trough moving down from the north with a front that looks to stall over northern CA. Low Pressure develops off of the Pacific NW coast and could stall there for several days. Another low off the West Coast could stall for the weekend and help to direct subtropical moisture towards CA.
We could see light rain and high-elevation snow showers develop by Friday afternoon, with heavier rain & snow possible by Saturday. The models split on whether this AR of moisture aimed at northern CA by Saturday will lift to our north by Sunday or stay aimed at the northern Sierra.
We could also see strong winds for the weekend along with the rain & snow. It could be a wet and windy weekend if we stay on the mild side of the AR as the models are showing. This is a newer scenario over the last 24 hours. So I’m not going to get into any snowfall details today, I’ll wait another day to watch the trends.
Long-Range Forecast:
The low-pressure system near the Pacific NW coast could continue to direct precipitation toward the region into next week, or it could be aimed to our north as some models suggest by Sunday into next week. But the door remains open to more precipitation as the low drops south by the end of next week.
We have a lot to iron out over the next several days to see how all of this actually sets up for the weekend and into next week. Winds, precipitation totals, snow levels, snowfall potential, etc. will all need to be fine-tuned as we get closer.
