From one of our earliest opening dates ever to skiing and riding until Memorial Day, here’s to Tahoe’s longest season and another winter we won’t forget! Take a look back at some of our favorite memories from the 21/22 season.
OCTOBER SNOWFALL & SKIING ON HALLOWEEN
A brush of winter swept in early this Fall. We saw our very first accumulation on October 8th, followed by 44″ more inches of Sierra snow by October 26th. Our crews rallied to set up the upper mountain for one of our earliest openings ever—October 29! This was only the third time in our history that we opened for skiing and riding in October.
This season’s Opening Day was historic in more ways than one. October 29, 2021 marked the first day of skiing and riding with our new name, Palisades Tahoe. While some people embraced the progress and others resisted the change, being back on the snow reminded us that the mountains we love and the passion of those who flock here remain the same.
Skiers and riders came out to take their first turns of the season over Halloween weekend in costume, stoked for the season ahead.
After our October opening, temps warmed up and we held our breaths wondering when winter would turn back on…then December hit.
DEEPCEMBER – THE SNOWIEST DECEMBER ON RECORD
Winter turned back on December 9, and it didn’t stop for the whole month. The Sierra snow hammered down day after day, laying down a deep base for the rest of the season. The #DEEPcember snow total reached 211″ (17.5 FEET) by New Year’s Eve, making this our snowiest on record!
The huge amounts of snowfall came with it’s challenges and some of us remember more digging out than skiing during December 2021. But thanks to the monumental effort by our teams of employees, we got to ski some all-time Tahoe powder!
THE RETURN OF OUR FAVORITE EVENTS
After a 2 year hiatus, some of our favorite events returned for the first time since 2019! We were grateful to be able to gather once again and enjoy live music, competitions, and spring spectacles together at the mountains.
February 22: Double the Love, Double the Fun
On 2.22.22 fifty couples came together to say “I do” during a snowy group elopement ceremony on the mountain.
March 18: Redbull Raid
Red Bull Raid is our only competition where you gotta skin up to get down! Local skiers and riders joined the intense competition racing uphill to then pick their most technical lines down CII Bowl. Palisades Tahoe’s very own ski patroller Zach Williams took the grand prize.
March 26: International Snowblade Day & the Pain McShlonkey Classic
As always, this was one of the most outrageous spring days on the hill. Snowbladers dressed up and shredded the mountain in honor of ski legend Shane McConkey, raising money for the Shane McConkey Foundation.
March 27: Mothership Classic
What’s better than lapping your favorite chairlift for a cause? Skiers and riders spent the day on KT-22 and raised a whopping $177,000 for High Fives Foundation!
April 1-3: WinterWonderGrass Festival
We saw beautiful spring weather for the return of our favorite bluegrass festival with headliners Billy Strings, The Infamous Stringdusters, and the California Honeydrops.
April 9: Snow Golf Tournament
This year was one of the biggest turnouts yet for the 9-hole snow golf course from Summit Chair to Alpine Bowl, followed by live music and prizes on the Alpine sundeck!
April 17: The Cushing Crossing
Cushing Crossing returned for its 30th year! Following a powder day morning, we gathered to watch the greatest spring spectacle go down at Cushing Pond. In case you missed it, watch the full recap here!
April 17 & 24: Spring Tracks Concerts
We started a new spring tradition this year: We hosted two weekends of free concerts on the KT Deck! Shows featured music by DJ Logic, G. Love, and Paul Oakenfold.
May 28-29: Made in Tahoe Festival
The Tahoe community gathered in the Village to celebrate over 90 local makers and closing weekend at Palisades Tahoe!
APRIL SNOW SHOWERS
We witnessed some wild swings in weather this season! Our snowiest months were October, December, and April—when we saw over 7 feet of spring snow drop on the Sierra. Here is a breakdown of snowfall by month during the 21/22 season:
- October: 45″
- November: 8”
- December: 211″
- January: 6”
- February: 19”
- March: 18”
- April: 86”
- May: 17
After enjoying sunny bluebird days for most of January-March, April brought another series of powder days. The welcomed late-season snow also allowed us to extend our season until Memorial Day!
SKIING & RIDING UNTIL MEMORIAL DAY
Thanks to everyone who closed out the season with us over Memorial Day weekend! It was an awesome weekend of spring skiing, wiggles, costumes, music, and celebrations from The Village to Gold Coast Deck. Until next year!
