We are just a little over a week out from the Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup, which means the Palisades base area and Red Dog zone will be affected until the end of the event. Plus, we’ve got a LOT of snow in the forecast following over a foot of snow in the past 24 hours on our upper mountains.
Weather Outlook
We could see up to 30 inches of snow on the upper mountains between now and Tuesday. Here’s what to expect:
- Saturday: Snow is more likely to start in the afternoon. We’re hoping wind gusts hold off until then, too. 1-4 inches at the Palisades base, 2-6 inches Alpine base, 3-7 inches upper mountains.
- Sunday: We should see a break in snowfall, but winds could be an issue for ridgeline lifts. Snow showers and potential rainfall will start again in the afternoon.
- Monday: Heavy snow and rain throughout the day, dropping off in the evening.
Stifel Palisades Tahoe Cup Impacts
- The area surrounding the race finish (near Palisades Kids and the Base to Base Gondola) will be closed through the 29th. Palisades Kids and the Base to Base Gondola will still be open during this period.
- Julia’s Gold will be closed to the public until February 26th. Exhibition Chairlift itself will still be open.
- Far East will be open on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Next weekend, It will be closed intermittently on the 24th and 25th during race runs: 9:45-11:15am and 12:45-1:45pm.
- Red Dog will be closed to the public on Friday the 23rd and Saturday 24th. Everline Resort guests will be able to ride the chair back to the resort. If you are a guest of Everline, you must show your key card to ride the chair.
Lift & Terrain Updates
- Olympic Lady, Broken Arrow, and Far East will spin on Saturday and Sunday for the next 2 weeks, weather & conditions permitting.
- Alpine Bowl Chair will spin Saturday, Sunday, and Monday this week, weather & conditions permitting.
- Yellow will spin Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this week, weather & conditions permitting.
- We’ve seen a few questions about why the Saddle isn’t groomed. It is just because of low snow. We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to put it in soon. If you’re curious about grooming in low snow conditions, you can check out this springtime grooming blog we did a few years ago for some more insight.
- Silverado needs more snow. We mainly need snow for the access road. You can read more about that here. We will provide another update after this storm.
