Weather
Heavier precipitation and high winds are expected this afternoon as a front moves through, followed by lighter showers into Friday evening. Snow levels will drop quickly to around 7,000 feet as the storm intensifies, reaching the base by mid-afternoon and continuing to fall into Friday night. By early Saturday, snowfall totals could range from 2-5 inches at the base, 4-8 inches at mid-mountain, and 5-9 inches up top.
A dry pattern will set in Saturday through next week, with strong high pressure bringing mostly sunny skies, highs in the 30s and 40s, and overnight inversions. Check out the weather blog by Open Snow’s Bryan Allegretto.
Operations
As of today, the Central Sierra Snow Lab calculated that the Tahoe region is at 122% of median snowfall to date, meaning that this region has seen more snowfall so far this season than compared to the 1991-2020 median. Palisades Tahoe’s current season snowfall total stands at 139 inches, with more on the way today and into tonight. The high winds accompanying this storm have affected today’s lift operations, but we do not anticipate weather impacts for the weekend.
Palisades: This weekend, we plan on running every lift as weather and conditions allow (with the exception of Silverado and Olympic Lady), and adding Broken Arrow and Far East to the lift schedule. The Riviera terrain park is back for the first time in a few years and has some very fun features.
Alpine: Sherwood Express opened for the first time this season on Thursday, but has since been removed from the operating schedule due to a power issue. Our Lift Maintenance team is actively working on the lift. We will post updates as more information becomes available.
Silverado still needs more snow before we can start to expand our terrain into that area.
Safety
Current conditions on the mountain are variable, with some areas softened by the sun and others firm and fast. It is always incredibly important to ski and ride within your ability level, be cognizant of hazards and other skiers, and pay attention to all signage. The closed signs and ropes that patrol puts up are for your safety, and if you go past a closed sign, you can lose your pass.
A great tool for navigating your way around the mountain is the Palisades Tahoe App. It delivers real-time updates on lift and terrain statuses, features trail maps, offers personalized riding recommendations based on ability level, and allows you to track your friends on the mountain.
January is Learn to Ski and Ride Month, and it is your responsibility to know the National Ski Area Association Responsibility Code to keep yourself and others safe. If you are a first time skier or want to improve your skills, Palisades Tahoe has a premier Mountain Sports School for all ages. From first lessons to advanced athletic coaching, our elite, certified instructors, professional alumni, and exceptional mountain terrain provide a top-tier learning environment that enables any guest to progress past their limitations and achieve their goals.

Parking
As a reminder, parking reservations are required every weekend and select holiday periods. Unless it is a holiday period, midweek parking remains free and first come, first served. With Sherwood open, we will have the Sherwood Shuttle running daily (as weather and conditions permit) as a free way to get to the mountain. There are also other free ways to get to the mountain: the Mountaineer Shuttle, which offers free rides in Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows, TART, and the free Park and Ride, available in both Truckee and Tahoe City with frequent rides between 6:30 a.m. and 5:45 p.m.
