Operations Update: Lifts Opening Earlier This Weekend

Skier in Spring off Siberia at Palisades Tahoe

We are officially shifting our hours of operation this weekend to make the most of Spring conditions and getting the snow early as the temps stay warm. Palisades Tahoe lifts are now scheduled to open from 8am – 2:30pm. We are sticking to the weekends-only schedule for skiing & riding, which means you can get those buttery spring turns on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the next two weeks. We’ll also be open on Monday, May 30 (Memorial Day) for the very last day of the 21/22 season.

Weather

  • It will be progressively warmer each day this weekend, reaching nearly 60 degrees by Sunday.
  • No freezing nights are in the forecast, which means snowmelt is accelerating.
  • Next week, temperatures will get closer to 70 degrees midweek.

Lift, Terrain, & Conditions Updates

The following seven lifts are scheduled to run 8am-2:30pm: the Funitel, Aerial Tram, Gold Coast, Siberia, Shirley Lake, Bailey’s Beach, and Mountain Meadow.

The park crew is working on touching up Gold Coast terrain park for the weekend. With recent warm temps, the snow isn’t holding up quite as well as they’d hoped, but they are working with what they’ve got!

Side note: if you happened to look at our webcams today and saw skiers & riders out on the hill, it was a special employee-only ski & ride day! Thanks to our awesome crews for keeping the season going this long.

Tahoe Via Ferrata Early Opening This Weekend

Looking to multi-sport this weekend? After skiing in the morning, try climbing the Tahoe Via Ferrata. The team at Alpenglow Expeditions are doing an early opening this weekend May 20-22, and then they will fully open for the summer starting May 27! You can book a group or private 2-hour, 3-hour, or 4-hour tour. No climbing experience needed.

Operations Update: Wednesday Re-Opening Plans

Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 15th, we plan to reopen both Alpine and Palisades. We appreciate your patience with us being closed today: Our teams NEEDED this day to try to get ahead a bit, and snow conditions are not conducive to a good day of skiing -- It rained as far up as 9,000 feet at times. We spent the day continuing to dig out, performing snow safety, addressing flood zones, and preparing for the few days ahead that have a break in the weather. Tomorrow, we still expect that some of our lifts will be delayed. We will start with a lower mountain offering and expand throughout the day as we can.

Operations Update: The Never-Ending Storm Cycle + Sunday Expectations

Following a very wet 36 hours, we achieved the opening goals we set yesterday and got every lift that we expected today, thanks to the hard work of our ops teams. Seriously, it is hard work out there: So many people are out there digging chairlifts out by hand after spending the early morning hours digging their vehicles and homes out first. Our snowpack is very saturated with water and heavy, which can also make things difficult for our grooming machines. We truly have no clear days in the forecast to recover from this wet weather event, so we appreciate your patience.
