We’re getting ready for the 2026/27 season with major investments, new programs, and plenty to look forward to both on and off the mountain. From new avalanche mitigation technology and snowmaking improvements to an easier way to learn to ski or ride and another packed winter of events, here’s a look at what’s new this season.
Remote Avalanche Control Technology
This winter, we are introducing one of our largest investments in avalanche mitigation technology to date. Six new Gazex and Gazflex exploders at Palisades, five Wyssen avalanche towers at Alpine, and a new CATEX cable system in The Funnel will give our Patrol teams additional tools to conduct avalanche mitigation remotely.
These systems are designed to help teams perform critical mitigation work more efficiently while reducing the amount of time employees need to spend traveling through avalanche terrain. They can also be operated during periods of heavy snowfall, strong winds, and limited visibility. The technology doesn’t replace the expertise and decision-making of Patrol, but gives our teams more tools to work with when preparing the mountain following significant snowfall and wind events.
A New Diesel-Electric Snowcat Joins the Fleet
Our grooming fleet of 50 snowcats is growing with the addition of three PistenBully 600E+ machines, the world’s only diesel-electric snowcat. These innovative machines combine power and efficiency with technology designed to help our grooming teams make smarter use of the snow already on the mountain.
The new snowcats also feature SnowSat LiDAR, which allows operators to measure snow depth in real time up to 165 feet in front of the machine. With a clearer picture of where snow is needed, operators can place it more precisely, reduce unnecessary grooming passes, and build more resilient surfaces throughout the season.
Enhanced Snowmaking in Key Areas
We’re continuing to invest in snowmaking along Mountain Run, one of the primary routes connecting the upper mountain to the Palisades base area.
This summer, crews are expanding snowmaking capabilities along the route to help create a more resilient snow surface. These improvements will support top-to-bottom skiing and riding during the early season while helping maintain coverage later into spring.
Beginner Progression Pass
New to skiing or snowboarding? The all-new Beginner Progression Pass is designed to make learning the sport and sticking with it easier.
For $799, beginner skiers and riders receive three group lessons that can be taken throughout the season, plus lift tickets and rental equipment for each lesson day and a complimentary pair of goggles. Complete all three lessons and you’ll graduate with a complimentary Palisades Tahoe season pass valid for the remainder of the season, along with additional discounts on rentals and lessons and access to an Ikon Pass discount for the following winter.
There are no blackout dates, and quantities are limited.
Apex Club Returns for an Elevated Second Season
Following a successful inaugural season, Apex Club returns for 2026/27 with an even more refined premium mountain experience. Building on feedback from its founding members, year two will focus on elevating the elements members valued most, including personalized hospitality, premium mountain access, the private Apex Lounge, food and beverage, and exclusive member experiences throughout the season.
Apex Club was created as a new way to experience Palisades Tahoe, pairing more seamless days on the mountain with a deeper sense of community.
Kids Ski Free January 25 – 31, 2027
Kids can join in the fun with free lift tickets at Palisades Tahoe from January 25–31, 2027. Whether they’re making their first turns or already cruising the mountain, a week of winter adventure awaits. Guests can also save 20% on group lessons and 20% on equipment rentals and demos for all ages.
Additional program details, eligibility requirements, redemption instructions, and terms and conditions will be announced later this fall. Kids ages 4 and under ski free at Palisades Tahoe all season long.
Tahoe Live 2026
Tahoe Live returns December 11–13 for three days of world-class electronic music beneath the peaks of Palisades Tahoe. The festival brings the energy of a mountain rave to Olympic Valley, combining days on the slopes with three nights of live performances in The Village.

Forged & Welcome to Winter
Our annual Welcome to Winter celebration returns to The Village with live music, shopping specials, the annual tree lighting, and a celebration of the people who have helped shape this mountain and community.
The evening will include the induction of the newest members of Forged, our monument honoring the pioneers, athletes, visionaries, and community members who have made a lasting impact on Palisades Tahoe. Following the ceremony, guests can continue the celebration and reminisce at Bar One.
Aerial Tram Upgrades
Guests riding the Aerial Tram may notice some new hardware above the iconic cabins this winter. New hanger arms, the large silver structures connecting each cabin to the haul ropes, are being installed as part of extensive fall maintenance.
Crews will also work alongside experts from Tram manufacturer Garaventa to replace the haul ropes. The project is part of the ongoing maintenance required to keep one of the resort’s most recognizable lifts operating for seasons to come.
KT Bass Bar Expanded Entertainment
The KT Bass Bar Music Series presented by Coca-Cola is turning things up again this winter with enhanced sound and lighting alongside 52 days of live DJs in the base area.
Located at the base of KT-22, the series is the perfect way to keep the energy going after a day on the mountain. Expect another winter filled with high-energy après, ski-boot dancing, and live DJ sets beneath one of the most iconic peaks at Palisades Tahoe.
Love Brings Us Back
Opening Day is scheduled for Wednesday, November 25, weather and conditions permitting, and there’s plenty to look forward to before the first chair spins.
