Thanksgiving Weekend in Olympic Valley is always a special experience. The Village is glowing, the mountains are crisp and quiet, and the early winter light creates a backdrop that’s nothing short of stunning.
While we’re still waiting on colder temperatures and fresh snowfall to open the mountain for skiing and riding, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the long weekend. Scenic tram rides, festive events, live music, family activities, and holiday meals make this the perfect time to gather, explore, and celebrate the start of the winter season in the mountains.
Opening Day Mountain Operations Update

Updated: Sunday November 23rd at 1:00PM
While we were originally scheduled to open on November 26, we are postponing Opening Day due to limited natural snowfall and short, inconsistent windows for snowmaking. So far, early-season storms have brought only light accumulations, and the cold, dry conditions needed to build a safe, durable snow base haven’t materialized yet.
Our snowmaking team has fired up equipment during every available cold snap, but those opportunities have been brief. Even if it feels cold, high humidity can prevent snowmaking — and without sustained wet bulb temperatures, we’re unable to produce the volume of snow needed for a safe and sustainable opening.
In the meantime, our operations and snowmaking crews remain on standby 24/7. Once temperatures drop and we get a solid window, we’ll make fast progress toward getting lifts turning.
We’ll continue to provide updates here and on our social channels as conditions evolve.
Ride the Aerial Tram for Scenic Views
November 27–30 | 10:00 AM – 4:20 PM
The Aerial Tram is open for sightseeing rides throughout the holiday weekend, offering panoramic views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada.
This is your chance to experience High Camp from above, walk the observation decks, and take in the quiet beauty of late fall in the mountains. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or just need a new perspective, it’s the perfect way to reconnect with the outdoors.
Please note: Guests may not bring skis, snowboards, or sleds on the tram at this time.

FORGED Legacy Ceremony

Saturday, November 29 | 4:00 PM at the Sculpture | Reception at Bar One
Now in its second year, the FORGED Legacy Ceremony honors individuals who have shaped the story of Palisades Tahoe — athletes, coaches, mentors, and community members whose influence runs deep across generations.
As we did last year, we’re keeping the new inductees a surprise until the moment of the ceremony. The names added to the sculpture are carefully chosen to represent excellence, legacy, and a lasting impact on this mountain and the people who call it home.
The ceremony takes place at the FORGED sculpture near the Funitel, followed by a community reception at Bar One. Expect heartfelt stories, shared memories, and a powerful reminder of what it means to be part of the Palisades community.
Thanksgiving Weekend Means More

This weekend is a reminder that winter is about more than snow. It’s about time well spent with the people you love. It’s about hot drinks and cold air, about music drifting through the Village and lights twinkling in the windows.
Whether you’re here for a scenic ride, a special meal, or just a breath of mountain air, Thanksgiving at Palisades is full of moments worth sharing.
Book your stay and make the most of this long weekend in the mountains.
