Ski season is officially here! We had some of Lake Tahoe’s signature sunny weather today. Clear skies and light wind made for perfect, crisp conditions. Bright and early this morning, our employees were out on the hill getting set up for the start of a new year. (Of course, our grooming and snowmaking employees were here overnight working in the dark!)
Many folks who came to the mountain today were surprised to see how different the base area near the Funitel looks now. There is a paved ramp up to the Funitel entrance and to the bottom terminal of the Base to Base Gondola. Members Locker Room also has new access to this area, which we’ll be calling the Gondola Plaza.
While waiting in line at the Funitel, early arrivers were gifted with Palisades Tahoe signature beanies, koozies, and neck gaiters. Anticipation was building in the air.
The Funitel opened its doors at 9am, and excited skiers and snowboarders piled into cabins, eager to get to Gold Coast. Waiting for them at the top were some of our Palisades Tahoe pro athletes, including Jonny Moseley, Darren Rahlves, Amie Engerbretson, Travis Ganong, JT Holmes, and Connery Lundin. The athletes held an Opening Day banner, and six lucky people who grabbed first chair were able to rip right through it onto Gold Coast.
TODAY’S CONDITIONS
Gold Coast run was perfectly groomed corduroy. People were grooving and making nice, wide turns all the way down. Those who ventured just slightly off-piste a bit found creamy, smooth stashes to slash through. However, getting too far from the properly groomed runs definitely resulted in skiers or snowboarders finding low-tide conditions. Grass and rocks were visible in some places, so be aware of your surroundings and be sure to wear a helmet if you’re visiting us this week.

WHAT TO EXPECT THE REST OF THE WEEK
Weather
According to OpenSnow, we’re entering a drier period right now. It will be sunny and temperatures will warm up next week. It doesn’t look like we have any snow on the horizon until possibly the end of the month, so we’ll be making snow here whenever temperatures allow.
Terrain
