It’s the weekend (cheering, fist pumping, raise the roof arms)! You’ve earned your Saturday and Sunday. Give yourself a pat on the back. The first thought that runs through your mind? What am I going to do? Enjoying yourself should be your first priority. Lake Tahoe is where you can do just that and have some fun on the side. Here is our suggested itinerary for a family getaway to Tahoe:
SATURDAY MORNING
A day cannot start without coffee (or at least that’s how I feel). Hit up Starbucks in the Village. Coffee for you and pastries and bagels for the kids. See? Everyone is a winner!
Make your way to Parallel Mountain Sports where you and the family can rent cruiser bikes. Start your journey in Squaw and bike along the Truckee River which will bring you right to the sparkling blue water of Lake Tahoe. Ahhh…you’ve arrived! Hopefully you packed your must read summer novel and sun tan lotion. Have the kids splash around and build sand castles while you soak it all in- the views included!
Time to head back to your stomping grounds since your stomach is most likely grumbling. What better place to fill your empty belly then the pizza & pasta eatery in the Village. Fireside Pizza offers a variety of unique delicious pizzas (our favorite is the Pear Gorgonzola!). They’re also mindful of those will allergies. Gluten free options? They’ve got that- and their gluten free pizzas are quite delectable!
After dinner, let the kids explore our new free activity zone at the base. You’ll be able to try out our new slackline park, play a round of croquet or challenge the family to a game of ladder ball.
Curl up in the living room with a DVD rental from Alice’s Market. A great way to end the perfect play day at Lake Tahoe.
SUNDAY
Should we mention the whole coffee scenario again? If you’re looking to change it up, head to Mountain Nectar (right next to Starbucks). Here you’ll find awesome smoothies, breakfast bagels with all the fixings and yes, coffee.
No Lake Tahoe trip is complete without a ride up the scenic Aerial Tram. Climbing 2,000 vertical feet, the Tram offers spectacular views of Shirley Canyon, Squaw’s unique granite rock features and of course views of Lake Tahoe.
Once you’ve reached your final destination, there is plenty for you and the family to explore. Swimming, roller skating, hiking, geocaching and tennis. Take your pick: you’ve got plenty of options! Play a round of mini golf when you get back down to the Village. The kids will have a blast and you will too. It’s been adult tested- smiles are pretty much a guarantee.
For a great burger and fresh salads, look no further than Rocker@Squaw. They’re got it all. With a killer kids menu, everyone is sure to find something that they can enjoy. Ask about the farm-to-table offerings on the weekends. Get freshly prepared meals from our local markets. Yum!
And there you have it! One great weekend in Lake Tahoe to spend with the family. No fuss. No muss. Just quality together time and a last minute sun tan. See you in the mountains!
