March 13: It kept getting better!

I did not have a very good feeling about today as I pulled up to the mountain at around 8:30am. Everything was on wind hold. I figured I would probably get myself a nice meal in the village and then head back home to get some rest. Just before 9am, we caught wind that Far East and SnoVentures would be running.

The first few runs had low visibility, but a soft layer of snow in places on top of an otherwise firm groomer. After an hour or so of Dog Leg laps, more terrain started to open. We ended up having KT-22, Exhibition, Red Dog, and Resort Chair added to the schedule by lunch. Each run was better than the last, with more terrain opening and pockets of sunlight poking through throughout the morning.

My favorite turns of the morning were underneath the resort chair in Strainer, where there was some nice chalky snow hiding between the trees. As the clouds cleared by late morning, the temperatures increased. By the afternoon, the sun was mostly out and we started getting slushy snow on some aspects.

More and more terrain continued to open throughout the day and by the end of the day, we had the Funitel, Gold Coast, Siberia and Shirley added to the schedule. I never made it to the upper mountain but had some really fun runs on KT in the afternoon. I saw skiers coming down Red Dog Ridge and Tom’s Tumble, which looked really nice.

Today had a little bit of everything; Winter to start the day and Spring to finish the day off. The rest of the week should be more of the same with some warm days as well as some more winter storms coming through.
