Warmer Weather Next Week

Tuesday – Sunday:

We have slightly cooler temperatures for Tuesday with highs in the 40s for the lower elevations to near 50 degrees at the base, and 30s and 40s for the higher elevations.

As we get to the end of the week into the weekend, we will warm back into the 60s near the base, 50s up to mid-elevations, and 40s for the higher elevations.

Heat Wave:

The trend in the forecast over the last couple of days has been for a deeper cold trough digging into the eastern U.S. next week, and a stronger high-pressure ridge over the West. Highs could hit 70 degrees in the village by Monday into the middle of next week and 50s up top.

Sunny days and no precipitation are expected through the middle of next week.

The Dry Pattern Continues:

We should stay dry into the weekend of the 21st – 22nd with mild temperatures continuing. But as the ridge starts to weaken, the temperatures should start to cool slightly. Highs may drop back into the 50s for the lower elevations by the 22nd and 40s for the higher elevations.

Currently, no storms are expected through the 22nd.

Long-Range Outlook:

As we go into the last week of March, the long-range models continue to show the ridge weakening and lower heights and troughing trying to dig in over the West Coast. Not a deep cold trough that would swing open the door to wet storms, but enough that storms could start to track a bit farther south with some precipitation during the last week of March.

The longer-range models suggest that we could continue to see lower heights near the West Coast into the 1st week of April. That could continue to allow storms to dig farther south into northern CA with some precipitation for the northern Sierra.

But as we go into April, it gets harder to see big storms as the jet stream weakens and shifts north as we go deeper into spring. We do go into cut-off low season from late March into April, and sometimes one can slowly move through, bringing a big dump of snow.

We’ll continue to watch the trends and to look for when we could see a storm that will bring a return of measurable snowfall to the mountain.
