Two More Storms Sun & Tue

  • Mar 19, 2023
  • 6:49 am

Sunday Storm:

Snow showers are moving in Sunday morning, and will continue through the day before becoming more scattered Sunday night, and ending by Monday morning. Highs into the 30s. Ridgetop winds increasing from the southwest with gusts up to 50-60+ mph by Sunday evening, which could affect some upper mountain lifts later in the day.

The snow levels could be hovering near the base Sunday with wet snow and possibly a little rain mixing in. Then they fall below the base Sunday night. Here is the final snowfall forecast for this storm for totals expected by Monday morning.

  • 3-7 inches at the base.
  • 5-9 inches at mid-mountain elevations.
  • 6-11 inches up top.

Monday:

Some clearing Monday with partly sunny skies and scattered snow showers. Highs in the 20s up top and 30s at the base. The strong ridgetop winds could continue into the early morning hours and then fall through the day.

Tuesday Storm:

The next storm pushes snow showers back in by late morning Tuesday, and then steadier snow Tuesday afternoon-evening. Scattered snow showers could continue Wednesday but with only very light accumulations expected at best.

The winds turn to the south-southeast Tuesday and gust up to 30-40+ mph up top. Then falling as they turn back to the west Wednesday. Highs into the 20s up top and 30s at the base on both days. Snow levels stay below the base.

Here is the updated forecast for snowfall totals expected from Tuesday through Wednesday. Most of the snowfall is expected to fall by Wednesday morning.

  • 3-7 inches at the base.
  • 4-8 inches at mid-mountain elevations.
  • 5-9 inches up top.

Thursday:

We could see a brief break Thursday with partly sunny skies, a few scattered snow showers, and highs into the 30s.

Friday System:

We are watching another weak storm that could bring us more snow showers Thursday night into Friday. We’ll continue to watch the trends on that storm with more details as it gets closer.

Long-Range:

The storm door is forecast to remain open through the last week of March and into the 1st week of April, but we are into the spring pattern and stronger storms will be harder to come by. The next chance of a storm looks to be around the 27th-28th, with another storm or two possible by the end of the month.

We’ll continue to watch the trends to make sure no bigger storms show up. The long-range models suggest that the unsettled pattern with snow showers could continue into the 1st weekend of April. We’ll continue to watch the trends on that as well. We are hoping for no big storms during the WinterWonderGrass Festival from 3/31-4/2.
