With all this said, we know you’re eager for Silverado to open. We are almost there! We are planning to open it this week, but we don’t want to commit to a specific day. Some east winds in the forecast could affect the chair, and we want to give our teams ample time to set up safely. So, long story short: Silverado is coming soon, and you should check the next day’s scheduled lifts each afternoon to see when we put it on the schedule.
Silverado may be the most coveted terrain at Palisades Tahoe. Spanning a square mile and lined with iconic shoots and steeps that only the most advanced skiers and snowboarders can hit, it’s no secret that prepping this area for opening is a huge task. After a big snowfall, you might assume that Ski Patrol is the first to head back into this area, but in fact, it is a snowcat that plows through first — literally.
At long last, Silverado will be opening tomorrow, Saturday, January 21st, thanks to a humungous effort from our operations teams and the blessing of clear skies. After an additional 9 inches of snow on Wednesday night, which brings our January snow total to over 14 feet, the weather looks clear for more than a week. This is our first big break in storms since mid-December. We have been taking advantage of the sunshine to dig out and try to get ahead once again. We don’t know about you, but we’re pretty excited to have some Lake Tahoe sunshine back this week.
Silverado chair opened for the first time this season today, expanding options for skiing & riding even more of our favorite expert terrain.
Silverado is not able to open until there is enough snowpack to build the Oregon Trail access road to the bottom of the lift, which sits at el. 6,808′. With no snowmaking in the zone, this typically requires an above-average amount of snowfall.
