One of the best ways to see the Lake Tahoe region and the surrounding mountains is from one of our three enclosed lifts. Palisades Tahoe has the unique position of having a Gondola, an Aerial Tram, and a Funitel, and you can ride all three of them when you visit us. Our Sightseeing Package gives you all-day unlimited access to ride these three lifts as much as you want. If you’re not in the mood to ski or snowboard, or you’re looking for a different perspective on how to enjoy Palisades Tahoe, we’ve got the perfect itinerary crafted for you:
That’s a wrap on the incredible 2022/23 winter season. After an unbelievable 723 inches of snowfall and skiing that lasted into the month of July, it feels surreal to finally be saying goodbye to one of the most historic and memorable seasons we’ve ever had. The huge amount of snowfall (our season average is only 400 inches!) made for some extreme working conditions, but our teams persevered through every obstacle: digging out their own homes, driving in treacherous conditions, and working throughout every blizzard to keep these mountains open. We are ALL excited to have a few months of sun, and a break from digging out.

Palisades Tahoe is preparing for the construction of the base-to-base gondola connecting the two areas. This is a tremendously complex project, with four terminals spanning two ski areas, and our team will continue to work closely with Leitner-Poma on the planning and construction.
With the winds beginning to pick up and a “parade” of storms on the horizon, we’re expecting a very dynamic weather week through the New Year. There is a good chance our upper mountain lifts will be impacted for multiple days, and some of our outdoor events or activities may be canceled or relocated. While the immediate aftermath of this enormous storm series will present some challenges, California NEEDS this moisture and our snowpack will be in great shape as we enter the New Year.
Throughout this week, we have been finalizing the work needed to complete the interconnect and allow the Gondola to run as one continuous lift. If everything goes according to plan, then the Gondola will re-open and will be able to operate as one complete loop by early next week. If there are persistent issues related to operating as one continuous route, we will open the Base to Base Gondola and operate it as we did for its opening, as two separate lifts with an offload/onload at KT mid-station.
It was a momentous day for Palisades Tahoe on Saturday, December 17th. After more than 70 years of dreaming about connecting two legendary valleys, the Base to Base Gondola opened to the public for the first time. After a full day of operations that included giveaways, free mountain tours from The North Face Mountain Guides, and live music at our snow beaches, the Base to Base celebration finished off with a huge concert. Aluna and Dillon Francis performed — for free — and we wrapped it all up with an unforgettable fireworks display.
Planning on visiting snowy, beautiful Lake Tahoe this weekend? Did you know that this Saturday. December 17th is the long-awaited opening of the Base to Base Gondola? This will be a busy time, but with a little patience, you are sure to enjoy yourself. We have fun, family-friendly events and activities going on, and the skies will be clear and sunny!
