Terrain Expansion at Squaw and Alpine

  • Dec 1, 2016
  • 2:27 pm

Our operations teams have been working hard to get terrain open and we have some exciting announcements for you, skiers and riders! On the schedule for Friday, December 2*, we have the following lifts ready to rally:

Alpine Meadows

  • Summit Six Express at Alpine Meadows

Heads up: We’ve seen strong east winds today and the National Weather Service is calling for the same pattern tomorrow, which greatly impacts our lift operations at Summit. It’s important to remember that it’s not always about speed, but it’s about direction as well. While we have been getting the terrain ready for you, we’re watching the weather closely hoping the winds will die down tomorrow. It will be best to stay tuned to the all-new app or our real-time lift status page.

We had a strong east wind today and NOAA is calling for same situation tomorrow, but our team is working hard to get terrain ready for you, our loyal skiers and riders!

“We did our control work up here the last couple of days. We feel good about our snow and we’re looking forward to opening upper mountain for you guys tomorrow” – PJ, Alpine Ski Patrol

Operations Update: Wednesday Re-Opening Plans

Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 15th, we plan to reopen both Alpine and Palisades. We appreciate your patience with us being closed today: Our teams NEEDED this day to try to get ahead a bit, and snow conditions are not conducive to a good day of skiing -- It rained as far up as 9,000 feet at times. We spent the day continuing to dig out, performing snow safety, addressing flood zones, and preparing for the few days ahead that have a break in the weather. Tomorrow, we still expect that some of our lifts will be delayed. We will start with a lower mountain offering and expand throughout the day as we can.

Operations Update: The Never-Ending Storm Cycle + Sunday Expectations

Following a very wet 36 hours, we achieved the opening goals we set yesterday and got every lift that we expected today, thanks to the hard work of our ops teams. Seriously, it is hard work out there: So many people are out there digging chairlifts out by hand after spending the early morning hours digging their vehicles and homes out first. Our snowpack is very saturated with water and heavy, which can also make things difficult for our grooming machines. We truly have no clear days in the forecast to recover from this wet weather event, so we appreciate your patience.
