March in Tahoe is typically a miraculous time of year. In recent seasons, it has delivered some of the biggest snowfall of the entire winter. Following up the 124 inches we saw in February would be a tall order, but hey, never say never.
But here’s the truth: whether it snows again or not, there’s still a lot to be excited about.
This is the time of year Palisades Tahoe is famous for. We didn’t trademark the phrase Spring Skiing Capital® for nothing. When spring arrives in the Sierra, the mountain transforms. Sunny skies, warm afternoons, stylish outfits, and that unmistakable California energy start to take over.
The terrain parks continue to evolve, the wiggles begin to take shape, and that classic California corn snow starts showing up. It’s all soft, carvable, and ridiculously fun to ride.
Spring in Tahoe is just different. This is usually the time of year when a lot of Californians start shifting their focus away from skiing and snowboarding, dusting off surfboards, golf clubs, and climbing racks instead. But the secret is you don’t have to choose one or the other. You can still stack morning laps before heading out for a round of golf, a bike ride, or whatever else the day has in store. Those multi-sport Sierra days are the kind you end up bragging about to friends who live in, well… less cool places.
And while some people might say this winter has had its ups and downs, it’s hard to complain when more than 5,000 acres of terrain are still open and riding beautifully. The vibe shifts this time of year. It’s a little less serious, a little more playful, and just as fun.
So whether you’re chasing corn snow, cruising groomers, or just soaking up the sunshine, here’s what you can expect when you head to the Spring Skiing Capital®.
Weather & Conditions

The weather pattern has settled into a stretch of sunny and stable conditions across the Sierra.
Gusty East Winds Through Saturday
The main weather factor in the short term will be gusty east winds, especially along the ridgelines.
- Friday: Ridgetop winds gusting 40 – 50+ mph
- Saturday: Gusts increasing to 50 – 60+ mph
- Winds will be strongest along exposed ridgelines and may impact upper mountain operations at times.
Despite the wind, skies remain clear and visibility excellent.
Sunny Week Ahead
Looking ahead, mostly sunny skies are expected each day through next Friday (March 13).
Temperatures will gradually warm as we move into next week:
- Through Saturday:
- 40s at the base
- 30s on the upper mountain
- Starting Sunday:
- 50s at the base
- 40s on the upper mountain
These sunny days and warming temperatures are ideal for classic California spring skiing, with softening snow surfaces during the day and plenty of sunshine across the mountain.
Looking Ahead
At the moment, no significant storms are expected through the third week of March. Some forecast models hint at a possible pattern change later in the month, but confidence remains low this far out.
We’ll continue watching the forecast closely as we move deeper into March.

Remain Sharp in Changing Conditions
With clear skies and cooler overnight temperatures, guests can expect firmer snow surfaces during the morning hours. Firm conditions can increase speed, so please remember to ski and ride in control and choose terrain that matches your ability level.

Guests should also remain mindful of natural obstacles and variable coverage in certain areas. Last week’s rain and fluctuating temperatures may have exposed rocks, stumps, and uneven terrain that were previously buried under deeper snow. Even with a strong snowpack, these features can reappear as conditions evolve.
Before your next day on the slopes, take a few minutes to watch the Triangle of Safety video and complete the safety quiz. With March approaching, this is your final chance to enter for a chance to win a 2026/2027 Palisades Tahoe Local Pass.
Lift & Terrain Operations

With several freeze-thaw cycles now in place, classic spring conditions are starting to take shape across the mountain. Mornings may begin firmer, but as the sun works its magic, surfaces soften into that classic California corn snow that’s incredibly fun to ski and ride.
By mid-day, many off-piste areas are transitioning into soft, slushy conditions, creating playful turns and forgiving landings across a wide variety of terrain.
Across the resort, guests can still enjoy more than 5,000 acres of skiable terrain, offering plenty of space to explore and find your favorite spring laps.
Terrain Parks Heating Up

As we lean into the Spring Skiing Capital® season, the terrain park crew continues to dial things in.
- Gold Coast now features a new three-pack of larger jumps, along with the return of the famous Gold Coast Hip, located right underneath the chairlift. In 2025, the Gold Coast Hip was voted one of the best terrain park features in the country, and it’s back and ready for creative airs.
- Belmont Terrain Park continues to deliver its signature skatepark-style flow, offering lappable features with lower-to-the-ground jibs, creative rails, and small to medium jumps perfect for dialing in tricks or stacking park laps.
Between softening snow surfaces, sunny skies, and parks continuing to ramp up, the mountain is fully embracing those classic Spring Skiing Capital® vibes.
Lift and terrain status may change throughout the day. For the most up-to-date information, please check the Ikon Pass App or the Mountain Report before and during your visit.
