Weather and Conditions

High pressure systems remain firmly in place over the Sierra, setting the stage for an exceptional MLK holiday weekend at Palisades Tahoe.

Weekend & Short-Term Forecast:

Expect continued sunshine, light winds, and warm daytime temperatures, ideal for long days on the hill and soft snow conditions.

  • Sunny skies dominate through the holiday weekend
  • Highs in the 40s, with near 50°F temperatures at the lowest base elevations
  • Softening snow surfaces during the day, especially on sun-exposed aspects

These conditions are lining up perfectly for comfortable laps, family-friendly skiing and riding, and relaxed après sessions in the village.

Extended Outlook

Looking further ahead, the dry pattern is expected to persist through at least the next 10–14 days, as high pressure continues to rebuild over the West.

  • A potential trough may approach the West Coast around Jan 22–25, but current trends keep it east of the Sierra
  • Cooler air is possible during this window, though storm chances remain limited
  • Longer-range models hint at a possible pattern shift toward the end of the month, though confidence remains low at this time

For now, the takeaway is simple: sunny days, warm temperatures, and consistent conditions continue to define mid-January in Tahoe.

Safety Comes First

Riding conditions are exceptional across the mountain, but natural hazards and variable conditions may still exist in some areas as terrain and traffic continue to increase.

Key Reminders

  • Variable conditions can still exist, especially in off-piste terrain and high-traffic zones. Watch for unmarked obstacles, natural features, open water, and creek crossings.
  • Be aware of the freeze/thaw conditions as they are often firm and icy in the morning. Following the sun across slopes can provide softer, more enjoyable snow.
  • Adjust your speed and spacing based on terrain, visibility, and traffic, particularly when riding with kids or in crowded areas.
  • Mountain Run remains a designated safety focus area. Guests are encouraged to download via the Tram or Funitel. If you choose to ski or ride down, please respect slow zones and posted signage.
  • When riding lifts with children, ensure they are properly seated and secured, and follow all lift safety instructions.

January is Ski California Safety Month, a timely reminder that shared responsibility helps keep everyone safe on the mountain. Stay educated and test your knowledge in our Safety Quiz for a chance to win a 2026/27 Palisades Tahoe Pass.

Lift & Terrain Operations

Momentum across Palisades and Alpine remains strong as we head into the MLK holiday weekend. From wide-open groomers to advanced steep runs, guests can expect access to some of the most terrain currently available anywhere in the country.

What To Expect This Weekend

  • 30+ lifts scheduled to operate across both base areas
  • A mix of groomed runs, off-piste terrain, and high-alpine options available for all ability levels
  • Patrol-managed closures may be in place for select terrain as conditions evolve

Terrain Parks Update

Belmont Park is dialed and delivering a true skatepark-style experience, with features spanning side to side everywhere you look. Riders will find a diverse mix of jumps, hips, rails, and boxes, creating an ideal environment for both creative laps and skill progression. It’s an especially welcoming zone for beginner and intermediate riders, with plenty of space to learn, try new tricks, and link features all while soaking up a social, session-style atmosphere where it’s easy to meet new friends.

Over at Gold Coast, the park is taking shape with a handful of features already in place and more planned day by day as crews continue building and refining the setup. Expect steady improvements as conditions allow.
