Thanksgiving Weekend Preview

  • Nov 22, 2017
  • 3:03 pm

This Thanksgiving weekend we have plenty of open terrain to be grateful for! Thanks to our dedicated staff who have been working around-the-clock and some early season snowfall, we will have 9 lifts and carpets open with terrain for all levels to enjoy. Here’s what’s on the schedule 9am-4pm daily, conditions permitting:

Squaw Valley

  • Funitel
  • Aerial Tram
  • Gold Coast
  • Siberia
  • Emigrant
  • Shirley Lake
  • Mountain Meadow
  • Bailey’s Beach
  • Squaw Kids carpet

Alpine Meadows

  • Kangaroo
  • Little Carpet

The NOAA forecast is calling for mild temperatures in the 40s and 50s, partly sunny skies, some wind and a slight chance of rain. A colder storm could move in Sunday with snow levels dropping and the potential for new snow! Please note that high winds could affect operations, so please check our lift & grooming status, mobile app or our Ops Twitter for real-time updates.

Groomers Galore!

With 16 groomed runs, there is plenty of corduroy to gobble up this weekend. Beginners will love the High Camp area with groomed green runs off Mountain Meadow and Bailey’s Beach. Intermediate skiers and riders should head to Shirley Lake and Gold Coast to cruise some of our favorite intermediate groomed terrain. These slopes are perfect for getting back in the groove after a short summer break. Kangaroo run at Alpine Meadows is another great run to warm up your legs for the season ahead!

Off-piste fun

For more of a challenge, head to the steeper slopes of Siberia Bowl or ride Emigrant Chair and shred the Funnel to Shirley Lake!

More Park Features

In addition to Gold Coast Park, the Belmont Park will open tomorrow with some really fun new features to check out:

  • Propane tank
  • Pole jam/diving board
  • 2 small jumps
  • Dance floor box
  • Flat box
  • Flat down box
  • A-frame box
  • Flat rail
  • Flat down rail
  • A-frame rail
  • Down rail

This is the earliest in the season the Belmont Park has ever opened!

Fun off the slopes

There’s plenty of winter activity off the slopes this weekend.

  • Head to our SnoVentures zone at the base of Squaw Valley for “hike and slide” snowtubing that’s fun for the whole family.
  • FREE guided snowshoe hikes will also be offered at High Camp at 10:30am and 1:30pm daily with a limited number snowshoes available for use and no cost. Hike distances will be based on group availability. Please note: Aerial Tram access is not included.
  • High Camp is undergoing exciting renovations to revamp our mid-mountain dining and ambiance! Be sure to check out the brand new High Camp Marketplace, which opens tomorrow, for grab-and-go food, coffee and souvenirs.
Weekend Events

For passholder discounts, music, and cheep beer for a cause, don’t miss the Welcome to Winter Party this Saturday. The Village at Squaw Valley and Estelle Sports at Alpine Meadows will host local DJ’s, $2 beer benefit stations, raffles and passholder discounts on all of our store’s brand new merchandise! We also have two showings of the new Warren Miller film, Line of Descent, featuring a segment filmed at Squaw Valley! Get your tickets in advance – the shows will likely sell out.
