Summer Guide to Tahoe's Best Outdoor Dining

  • May 28, 2019
  • 12:31 pm

The best part of Tahoe summers is enjoying the great outdoors, and that includes eating and drinking! Check out some of our favorite places for outdoor dining in Palisades Tahoe, Tahoe City, and Truckee.

Palisades Tahoe Outdoor Dining

The Village at Palisades Tahoe is chock-full of outdoor eateries where you can enjoy the fresh mountain air. Here are our top not-to-miss spots this summer:

Rocker

Come here for the… rotating craft beers on tap and the new summer menu

front of rocker cafe

Take a seat at Rocker’s outdoor deck to soak in Palisades Tahoe’s scenery and the action in the heart of The Village. The summer après scene features 12 rotating beers on tap, wines from California and beyond, and a refreshing selection of fun signature cocktails. Rocker is infamous for its tower of cheesy, delicious nachos, but the summer menu also boasts San Francisco avocado toast, baby beet poke, panzanella, and more.

The Auld Dubliner

Come here for the… Guinness wings and cold beer

The lively Irish pub-style atmosphere of “the Dub” flows out onto the patio all summer long. Try the Guinness Wings, Irish Dip sandwich, or any traditional Irish fare and you won’t be disappointed. There’s also a massive selection of Irish Whiskey and the best Guinness in all of Tahoe!

Fireside Pizza

Come here for… a menu the whole family will love

Fireside Pizza Company

With a robust menu of pizza, pasta, salads and kid-friendly options, Fireside Pizza is the prime spot for family dining al fresco. Located smack dab in the middle of the Village, it’s also one of the best places to listen to the live music of Bluesdays, every summer Tuesday from 6-8:30pm!

Coffeebar Palisades Tahoe

Come here for the… refreshing iced coffee and gourmet treats

coffeebar deck

Whether you crave an iced coffee in the morning or a beer (or wine) in the afternoon, the Coffeebar deck is the perfect place to savor it. Try one of the croissants, baked fresh in Truckee daily!

Lake Tahoe Outdoor Dining

Just 11 miles from Palisades Tahoe, Lake Tahoe is a must-see as part of your summer vacation. Here are our favorite spots to enjoy a delicious meal with a side of fantastic lake views.

Sunnyside

Come here for the… Tahoe sunsets paired with fish tacos

Sunset on the lake

Located on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, Sunnyside’s lakeside patio is the perfect place to kick back with great food and stunning lake views. Make a reservation for the outdoor Lakeside Dining Room, or walk in and pick from the Mountain Grill bar menu for slightly more casual cuisine. Favorites include the fried zucchini, fish tacos, and Hula Pie for dessert. More on Sunnyside at Lake Tahoe

Moe’s Original Barbeque

Come here for the… BBQ grub and casual vibes with a side of lake views

Tahoe City yacht club

Located in the heart of Tahoe City, Moe’s Original BBQ has the ideal blend of impressive Tahoe views and laid-back vibes for a casual evening out. Order inside at the counter then find a table on the deck to chow down. The Southern Style BBQ joint features pulled pork, fried catfish, and sides galore. More on Moe’s in Tahoe City

Wolfdale’s

Come here for the… “Cuisine Unique” and the ambiance

Wolfdale's patio at sunset

The menu at Wolfdale’s changes frequently, but the food, wine list, and lake views are always on point. Arrive early or stick around after your meal to play a game of bocce below the deck! More on Wolfdale’s in Tahoe City

Truckee Outdoor Dining

A 20-minute drive from Palisades Tahoe, Truckee has a quaint and bustling downtown with even more outdoor dining. Here are a few of our favorite spots:

Truckee Tavern & Grill

Come here for the… rustic feel and top-notch cocktails

Truckee Tavern

Located above the streets of old Downtown Truckee, the Truckee Tavern & Grill not only has some great views from its historic balcony but some of the best cocktails around. The menu changes every day, but the food is always fresh, local, and delicious. More on the Truckee Tavern

Cottonwood

Come here for the… iconic views overlooking Downtown Truckee

cottonwood patio

Located on a hill overlooking Downtown Truckee, Cottonwood is known for its summer deck dining and iconic views. The upscale comfort food and full bar make for a memorable evening. Don’t miss the Whole Leaf Caesar Salad!  More on Cottonwood in Truckee

The Name Change, Part Two: The S- Word

In 2020, we made the commitment to do something that we should have done long ago: We changed our name from Sq**w Valley to Palisades Tahoe, removing a derogatory racial slur from our resort’s title. This change was the result of local people, including both employees and community members, working in tandem with the Washoe Tribe of California and Nevada to take genuine, meaningful action. We were lucky to have the support of our parent company in this daunting undertaking, but the planning and the changes happened right here in Olympic Valley.

The Name Change, Part One: The Washoe Tribe

The Washoe are the original inhabitants of Da ow aga (Lake Tahoe) and all the lands surrounding it. Washoe ancestral territory consists of a nuclear area with Lake Tahoe at its heart, and a peripheral area that was frequently shared with neighboring tribes. The nucleus of the ancestral territory is bordered on the west by the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the east by the Pine Nut and Virginia ranges, and stretches north to Honey Lake and south to Sonora Pass. The territory takes part of two very distinct ecosystems: the western arid Great Basin region of Nevada, and the forested Sierra Nevada Mountains in California.
