Spring skiing – Why is it so awesome?

  • Mar 10, 2015
  • 3:21 pm

Spring skiing is, for many, even better than powder skiing. How can that be, you ask? Let us count the ways for you:

  1. California Sunshine.
From first chair to last chair you get to ski under sunny Tahoe blue skies.
  2. The snow.
There’s a reason there are more than 50 words for describing snow. Around here we describe it as butter, corn, smooth, and silk, just to name a few. No matter what you call it, the turns on it are smooth and satisfying.
  3. Spring savings.
From discounted lift tickets to slopeside lodging deals, you really can get a good thing for less.
  4. Every now and then you also get a spring powder day.
That’s like having your cake and eating it too. In just a matter of days you can have winter snow and then go straight back to the glories of spring. Last season we had 13 powder days in March and April alone.
  5. Après
Apres is lively and outside with free music every weekend. Kick off your boots and kick it up a notch on one of our many outdoor sundecks with drink specials and good vibes all around.
  6. Mountain top hot tub.
It’s hard to beat this one of a kind experience. At elevation 8200 you can enjoy our outdoor hot tub with panoramic views of iconic Squaw Valley terrain and Lake Tahoe. Yes, you can really take a few runs, partake in hot tubbing, then hop back on the snow to ski the rest of the day.
  7. Terrain parks.
Fun all season, but let’s be honest, when the snow is like butter, your landings are softer.

Start planning your spring ski vacation now.

Photo Gallery: The Great Dig Out at Palisades

What a turbulent but exciting month March has been so far! The snow depth on our upper mountain is upward of 18 feet, and we are at 166% of total average snowfall. We started the first day of March off with 3 feet of snow in 24 hours. Then, after a small break in the weather, we received snow (and at some elevations rain) every day between March 5th and March 15th! Our season-to-date snowfall total is now sitting at 662 inches, or just over 55 FEET of snow. 14 of those feet have fallen in March alone!
