Top 10 Things to Do in Lake Tahoe this Fall

Three people in a family climbing the Via Ferrata

As the summer crowds disperse and the days get shorter, Fall is the perfect time to experience the quieter side of Lake Tahoe. You’ll find great deals at local restaurants & bars, cheaper lodging options, and plenty to do before winter strikes. Here are our top activities to check out this Fall:

1. Climb the Tahoe Via Ferrata

Take on a new adventure (and thrilling views) as you explore Palisade Tahoe’s iconic Tram Face on the Tahoe Via Ferrata. No climbing experience necessary! Professional mountain guides will lead you on one of four routes, safely attached to the rock throughout the experience using permanent steel anchors and cables.

Hot tip: Alpenglow Expeditions will host a Local’s Day on September 28, where 90 lucky locals can embark on the climb for only a $25 donation to Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue. Participants must live within 35 miles of Olympic Valley to be eligible and must submit a short form to receive a spot.

2. Bike

The Tahoe area is home to endless miles of singletrack for mountain bikers, steep climbs and mellow roadways for road cyclists, and paved, multi-use paths along the Truckee River and the shores of Lake Tahoe for families who love to cruise. No matter your biking style, you can find the perfect route near Palisades Tahoe.

Hot tip: Reserve your bike in advance and pick up at the Village Activity Center to maximize convenience. Bikes are available Friday – Sunday from 9am – 5pm.

3. Hike

We often don’t get significant snowfall until November, so September and October provide perfect weather to explore the local Tahoe trails without the summer heat. Download the Palisades Tahoe app to access hiking maps, track hiking performance, find your friends on trails, and more!

4. See the Fall Colors

Make the most of the Fall breeze and Autumn leaves at Palisades Tahoe. On weekends in September and October, you can travel up our Aerial Tram to High Camp for breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe. You can also explore the region’s many hiking trails that take you through towering aspen groves and scenic views. The Aerial Tram is open every Friday – Sunday from 10am – 5pm from September 2nd to October 12th.

Hot tip: 25/26 Ikon Pass holders ride the Tram for free. If you don’t have an Ikon Pass, purchase a sightseeing ticket and enjoy a $5 food voucher, valid at High Camp Marketplace, Rocker, SunBowl, or Little Bear Cafe.

5. Kayak & Paddle Lake Tahoe

As the sunsets get earlier and the temperatures begin to dip, kayaking and paddleboarding are the perfect ways to get out on the clear, blue waters of Lake Tahoe without having to take a dip. Daily paddleboard and kayak rentals are available in Truckee at Tahoe Sports Hub, or in Tahoe City at West Shore Sports or Tahoe City Kayak.

6. Check out the Adventure Van Expo at Palisades Tahoe

Join us September 20 and 21 for a family-friendly weekend open to all ages, celebrating the van life community and the opportunity to view an array of van vendors and overland products. In addition to all of the great van builds, the event will feature live music, food, and local brews all weekend long. And those looking to show off their custom builds are encouraged to sign up for the DYI Contest, where they will have their rigs viewed by hundreds of event goers and rated by van build experts. Looking to buy or sell? Expect to find roof racks, bumpers, solar panels, interior storage, water filters, window coverings, beds, bedding, and 4×4 recovery items….and of course coffee cups, t-shirts, and more!

7. Oktoberfest

Enjoy authentic beer, brats, food, and dance at The Village at Palisades Tahoe on September 27. Take part in the Oktoberfest Games and other family-friendly activities while enjoying live music and entertainment.

8. Made in Tahoe Festival

The Made in Tahoe festival will return on October 11 and 12! Join us in The Village at Palisades Tahoe to celebrate and support local Tahoe artisans, businesses, chefs, organizations, and entertainers. Discover, explore, and experience our community like never before while enjoying local food and beers.

9. Check out a ski movie premiere

The holy trinity of ski films returns to Tahoe. These films are the perfect opportunity to gather your loved ones and get excited for what’s to come. Each premier offers a chance to reconnect with community, watch artistry mixed with adrenaline, and be reminded of why we love this sport.
