The Cushing Crossing has been a staple of Palisades Tahoe’s spring season for over three decades. It’s the original pond skimming contest, and the thrills are as high as ever! But what makes the Cushing Crossing truly legendary? The costumes! The more outrageous and creative, the better. Whether you’re skimming across the pond in a dinosaur suit, a superhero cape, or an inflatable unicorn, the creativity of the costumes is what makes this event a crowd favorite. The judges are looking for the most imaginative outfits, and creativity scores big in the competition!

Registration & Rules

Registration for the Cushing Crossing opens at 8 AM on the day of the event, May 10th. It’s first-come, first-served, so make sure you’re ready early to secure your spot. Participants must be 18 or older and register in person on the KT Deck. The fee is $20 cash only, and a life vest is required (bring your own, or we’ll have loaners available).

Spectating & Après Fun

Even if you’re not participating, the Cushing Crossing is a must-see event! Grab a chair, sunscreen, beverage of choice, and settle in for an afternoon of excitement. Watch competitors wipe out in style or make it across the pond with a flawless run. Our celebrity judges and emcees will keep the energy high and the crowd laughing all afternoon.

After the event, keep the party going with après festivities at Le Chamois aka The Chammy. Just steps from the pond, this legendary spot is the heart of spring skiing celebration. Grab a slice, toast to the season, and swap stories from the day’s best (and splashiest) moments.
