Today was another glorious spring day at Alpine.
The past three weeks since the last storm have been exceptionally warm and sunny in the Tahoe region, ushering in the corn skiing season.
As is typical in springtime, we chased the sun, starting with the most south-facing slopes for optimal conditions while avoiding the firm, shaded groomers.
By 10 a.m., Sherwood Run had softened considerably, offering a smooth ride despite a few firm patches. The Sherwood Face, however, proved a tad too early—the bumps hadn’t thawed sufficiently, but they were still manageable.
Following several backside laps, we traversed back to the front side via Weasel Run, which remained quite firm then. If that’s your preferred morning trail, ensure your skis are sharp!
We hopped on the Roundhouse and headed to the Summit via Werner’s Schuss. The run skied beautifully as corn began to develop along the path. It melts earlier than Dance Floor and Charity on spring days and can become busier.
From the Summit, we ventured into Wolverine Bowl. The groomed section was in prime condition—exceptionally smooth with excellent grip. We bypassed The Face, as the moguls looked quite challenging from the lift.
Sunspot and Alpine Bowl captivated us – both were incredibly soft, yet not mushy. Cruising down the buttery surface and feeling the snow spray beneath our skis was pure joy!
After several laps on Summit, we skied via the Yellow back to the car. The snow there was perfect, and we were sad to depart.
Our friend who stayed longer reported: “The groomers stayed good till the afternoon. The corn under Lower Beaver was perfect right before noon.”
While we all adore corn skiing, we crave winter powder days returning. Thankfully, another storm is on the horizon for Tahoe later this week, bringing colder temperatures and snowfall to the Sierra.
Palisades Tahoe hosts two fantastic events this weekend: the Pain McShlonkey Classic on March 23rd and the Mothership Classic on March 24th.
It will snow on Saturday and Sunday, with weather potentially impacting operations. Check the Palisades Tahoe app for lift status and event updates.
Be prepared for winter driving conditions next weekend, dress warmly, and have a blast skiing that March powder!
