Powder, blue skies, and absolutely gorgeous weather were on the menu at Palisades today. The snow was soft and the vibes were awesome for another lovely day of skiing and riding this week.

Powder Returns to Palisades

Following an early week storm that brought a foot of snow, Palisades enjoyed a break in the weather with blue skies and no wind today. This combo of fresh snow and perfect weather made for the type of day in the mountains you dream about!

Lots of fresh tracks under Siberia.

Siberia Bowl Steeps

After making the drive up, I headed straight to Siberia to rip its powder-covered steeps. Early in the day it was easy to find untouched snow and lay fresh tracks but as the hours went by some places began to get skied out and choppy.

Gold Coast was deserted.

Not a Line in Sight

After a few laps on Siberia and then Gold Coast, I began to wonder where everyone was. Despite it being Tuesday I figured these conditions would draw crowds from far and wide, but no! What is better than that… fresh pow, blue skies, and now no lines!

Shirley Lake Shredding

Working my way over to Shirley Lake I found more of the same conditions, which paired with gnarly features in this zone made for some epic laps. Although I ventured elsewhere a few times, the terrain around this lift kept calling me back!

The Traverse

The area pictured above is between Headwall Express and KT-22 and despite neither of these lifts being open, it was still accessible via a traverse from Siberia. While quite long, and in some spots rocky, this traverse spits you out just below the summit of KT, giving you access to some of the resort’s best terrain. Even better, because few are willing to make the traverse this area holds powder well into the afternoon.

Exposed rocks on the Newport Run

Snow Cover

Despite the 4.5 feet of fresh snow this week, the resort is still experiencing some early season conditions. Exposed stumps, rocks, and trees can make off-piste terrain a bit of a gamble for anyone with expensive skis. On the bright side, the conditions are miles ahead of where they were this time last week, and with more storms in the forecast, it’s clear that the season is just starting to heat up!
