Showers & Another Snowstorm Possible

Tuesday – Wednesday Weather:

We are in a break between systems after the big weekend snowstorm. We will see mostly sunny skies for Tuesday and maybe some clouds streaming in by later Wednesday. Highs into the 40s for the lower elevations and 30s for the higher elevations.

Showers:

A weak system will brush us with a few showers Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The latest model runs show very little precipitation reaching the Tahoe Basin with this system. The snow levels will dip near the base with some wet flakes possible. The mountain could pick up a dusting to an inch of snow.

Friday – Saturday Weather:

Weak high pressure builds in going into the weekend. Mostly sunny days with highs into the 50s for the lower elevations and 40s for the upper mountain.

Sunday – Tuesday Storm:

The latest model runs still don’t agree on when this large low-pressure system could spin into the West Coast. They show precipitation arriving sometime between Sunday and Monday. Then the low takes about two days to move through the region with some steady rain and snow.

There is cold air at the center of the low, so snow levels could drop below the base as the precipitation moves through. Highs could drop into the 30s on the mountain to near 40 degrees at the base.

The latest model runs show up to 1+ inches of total precipitation possibly falling on the mountains near the crest. That could bring us several inches up to a foot of snow on the mountain if the latest model runs verify.

We’ll continue to watch the trends on this storm over the next several days to see if we will add to the already above-average snowfall here in April.

Long-Range Outlook:

Beyond the storm next week, the long-range models show the pattern being drier but staying open to weak systems bringing showers at times. They also show fairly seasonal temperatures with highs in the 50s near the base after a shot of colder air early next week.

Some of the long-range models show high pressure starting to build in over the region a little strong by the end of the month, which could bring us some milder temperatures.
